Call for Entry: United by Verse

For centuries, poets and visual artists have inspired one another, forging creative collaborations and developing new expressions of meaning and creativity.
Ekphrastic poetry, for example, are poems written about works of art. Haiga is a Japanese concept in which a painting is combined with a haiku poem. Some artists find inspiration in the metaphors, feelings, rhythm or themes in favorite poems.
For this exhibition, artists are invited explore the possibilities of uniting verse with their art in some fashion. Both elements may be the work or one artist or the result of a collaboration. Poetry may be incorporated into the artwork, but is not required. Poems may be original pieces or published, in either case attribution is required. Creative and unexpected connections and interplay are encouraged. 2-D and 3-D works welcome in all media. With submission of artwork, please also include a copy of the poem with author attribution.
Entry: Artists are encouraged to submit their entries online at jordanriverarts.com. Alternatively, a PDF may be downloaded from the website. The JRAC Exhibitions Committee reserves the right to the final selection of work to be shown in the gallery; space limitations may apply. Artist Entry with signed agreement and photos of the artwork are due by February 19, 2024.
Photo Requirements: Images are required for all works submitted. Photos are used for exhibit planning and promotional purposes.
Artwork Delivery: Work must be gallery-ready when submitted. Paintings and other 2D pieces should be finished, dry and include the approved installation device, which is gallery wire. No saw tooth hanging hardware please. All work must be labeled to include title, artist name, medium, size, and price. With the artwork, provide a copy of the poem with author attribution and a completed Inventory Form (available on JRAC website page for this Call).
Fees: Entry is free for JRAC members. A fee of $15 is payable by non-members. In cases where works are offered for sale, the JRAC commission agreement is 70% to artist and 30% to JRAC. These fees help to support exhibitions and other programs at JRAC.
