Call for Entry: Fish & Fowl

From fins to feathers, this Call to Artists invites artists to explore our delight and fascination with fish and birds. From backyard favorites to the exotic species of faraway places, these creatures intrigue with their habits, features and remarkable adaptive behavior. Fish and birds hold a unique place in our imaginations and have found their way into myths, fables and stories of all kinds through the ages. Many cultural associations exist as well, e.g., eagle as the strongest and bravest of birds or fish as a symbol of abundance. We look forward to seeing artists’ creative perspective and interpretation of this theme. Works in all media, 2D and 3D are encouraged.
Artist Awards
Thanks to the generous support of area businesses, we have the opportunity to provide the following cash awards during the Fish & Fowl Exhibit this summer.
$500 1st Place and $200 Judge’s Choice Award: EJ
$300 2nd Place: Beck’s Bait & Tackle, Billie’s Floral, and Inner Structure Interior Design
$200 3rd Place: Grey Gables Inn Restaurant & Catering
$100 People’s Choice Award: Ellsworth Farmers Exchange
Artworks will be judged based on creativity, originality, quality of work, composition, and overall artistic ability. Winners will be selected by . Winners will be selected by Glenn Wolff; N MI artist, illustrator, and musician. Awards will be announced at the start of the exhibition.
Entry: The entry deadline is June 3, 2024. Artists are encouraged to submit their entries online at jordanriverarts.com. Alternatively, a PDF may be downloaded and sent by email. The JRAC Exhibitions Committee reserves the right to the final selection of work to be shown in the gallery; space limitations may apply.
Photo Requirements: An overall image and up to one detail image are required for all works submitted. Photos are used for exhibit planning and promotional purposes.
Artwork Delivery: Work must be gallery-ready when submitted. Paintings and other 2D pieces should be finished, dry and include the approved installation device, which is gallery wire. No saw tooth hanging hardware please. All work must be labeled to include title, artist name, medium, size, and sale price if available for purchase. A completed Inventory Form must also be included (available on the web page for this Call).
Fees: Entry is free for JRAC members. A fee of $15 is payable by non-members or become a member! In cases where works are offered for sale, the JRAC commission agreement is 70% to artist and 30% to JRAC. These fees help support exhibitions and other programs at JRAC.
